United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is consisted of England, Scotland and Wales
in the island of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, in the island
of Ireland. It is one of the first world powers, so much to political
as economic level. Its past of overseas territories has produced
a wide range of cultures in United Kingdom that are reflected
above all in its capital and other big cities.
The country has a lot of monuments that testify its wide history.
The most ancient of them date back to Neolithic era, as Stonehenge,
besides former fortifications and Roman villas, a great number
of cathedrals and medieval villages and even the most recent projects
of the industrial revolution. Its broad colonial past facilitated
the plundering of great value pieces of practically all the civilizations,
fact that is reflected in the wealth and abundance of the museums.
In spite of being separated only by few kilometres of sea, it
presents cultural characteristics very different from the rest
of European nations. The little enthusiasm of their inhabitants
to belonging to the European Union has its more evident consequence
in the not introduction of the Euro(€). Nowadays, the politician
and British society face on the attitude that the country must
assume respect to the EU. The acceptance of the future European
constitution and the Euro are the most visible aspects.
Even more, though nowadays it is debated about the European Union,
many citizens have still problems with the same concept of United
Kingdom. The thorniest point of the national identity is Northern
Ireland, with their very known problems. And, in the same Great
Britain, Scotland and Wales, have always had a strong national
identity, with their own traditions and cultures, fact that has
caused a rift between them and England people.
In relation to the weather more than a half of year days are
cloudy. The British weather is very changeable and can pass from
a cold and rainy day to a sunny day in a few hours.
