Romania
Romania is the country of Eastern Europe in which it is more
difficult to travel.
The regime of Nicolai Ceausescu left the country close to bankruptcy
and scams and bad business practices are very common. But it also
has some positive attractions.
Travelling Romania can be a very rewarding and enriching experience.
Its wild mountain landscape, its wildlife and its many cultures
and people will not disappoint you.
The Romanians have something Latinos: tend to be warm, spontaneous
and lovers of the life pleasures. In addition to the Romanian
ethnic are the Saxons (Germans) from Transylvania, who lived in
medieval fortified towns. There also are the Hungarians (about
half a million), which tend to preserve an ancient traditional
lifestyle of Hungary and finally Ukrainians, Serbs, Bulgarians,
Gypsies, Turks and Tatars who are mixed on the coast and in the
Danube delta.
Bucharest, the capital, does not stand out as European city but
also has its local interest. But the best of Romania are undoubtedly
the Carpathians and Transylvania, a region of great beauty and
fascinating history, one of the most beautiful and unexplored
mountain scenery in Europe.
